From incredible mysteries in space to enigmatic archaeological and historic enigmas on our planet, there are numerous things that scientists, astronomers and archaeologists were not able to explain in 2015. In this article, we bring you some of the most fascinating mysteries from 2015 that no one has been able to explain.

The anomalous holes that started appearing in the Yamal Peninsula in Siberia remain as one of the biggest mysteries of 2015. While the first of the sinkhole’s was discovered in 2014, the following year extensive research was done. A spokesperson for the Yamal branch of the Emergencies Ministry said, “We can definitely say that it’s not a meteorite.” While there are several theories that try and explain the mysterious sinkholes, the truth is that no one knows for sure. Some believe that the mysterious holes are the result of a “build-up of excessive pressure” underground because of warming regional temperatures in that portion of Siberia. Other researchers believe that the appearance of the holes is related to a process called geothermal heat flux while others believe it is connected to Methane leaking.
Mysterious Ancient Geoglyphs in Kazakhstan could be the ultimate evidence of an 8,000-year-old civilization that went unnoticed until now. The mysterious formations were the subject of debate at the archaeological conference in Istanbul Turkey, these geometric figures are unique and unstudied earthworks of the Turgai region. Up until now, the so-called Steppe Geoglyphs are an enigmatic puzzle for archaeologist and the outside world. While some researchers theorize that these mysterious figures were meant to be seen from the air just as the Nazca lines in Peru, Mr. Dey believes these incredible figures were not meant to be seen only from the air, dismissing any involvement from Aliens. In the end, the truth is that we still have no idea what these enigmatic geoglyphs are, and as such remain as an unsolved mystery of 2015.
One of the most promising places to look for life beyond Earth got, even more, tantalizing in 2015. While researchers believe that Europa, one of Jupiter’s moon could have the necessary conditions to support life, the most life-friendly habitat ever discovered outside of our planet is Enceladus, which is Saturn’s sixth moon. This new research, published in the journal Nature, builds upon last year’s discovery of the moon’s 6-mile-deep ocean, which is also believed to contain many of the chemicals commonly associated with life.
Researchers found 17 previously unknown ancient monuments under Stonehenge. Unprecedented underground mapping revealed that Stonehenge was not always alone. Below the 5,000-year-old stone structure is an archaeological treasure composed of thousands of monuments including temples, tombs, deep wells and other unexplained features. Stonehenge was thought to be an independent, isolated structure and this discovery tells otherwise.
