Lord only knows why you’d want to tattoo your eyeballs, but apparently it is now a trend. A worrying, startling and truly incomprehensible trend.
So lets run through the positives of getting your EYEBALLS tattooed (I just want to make sure you understand the gravity of what I’m saying). You’ll look scary, it’ll hurt like fuck, and you could easily go blind.
According to BBC, the first person to experiment with eyeball tattooing was Luna Cobra – a US based tattoo artist.
“There used to be a private body modification convention that happened every few years in Canada. That year, an old friend had Photoshopped a picture of his eyes to look blue like in Dune. I told him, ‘I think I can do that for real’.”
Why would such a beautiful woman do this to herself?!
To start it all off Cobra managed to convince three volunteers to have ink syringed into their eyeballs
His technique involves injecting pigment directly into the eyeball so it rests under the eye’s thin top layer (the conjunctiva)
A single small injection has enough ink to cover about a quarter of the eye
It takes a few sessions to completely cover the sclera, which is then colored for life
“If you want to amuse yourself by decorating your eyeball, why not do it?”
Personally I’m not a fan
It just looks super scary
Imagine having this for life, it’s truly shocking
Think this is a good look? Well we have some words of warning
Jeffrey Walline, the chair-elect of the association’s Contact Lens and Cornea Council, thinks this is a terrible idea
“My advice is not to do it as there’s not enough benefit to even warrant considering that risk of potential pain and loss of vision”
So there you have it, is this really worth “potential pain and loss of vision”, I’m not so sure
If medical advice isn’t good enough for you, surely all the troubling images will make you think twice about getting this done. Just because it’s a ‘trend’ doesn’t mean you have to do it. Plus, you’ll look like the devil and nobody wants that.
