What Is It?! Astronaut Captures Mysterious Red Light

The International Space Station is perhaps one of the biggest achievements of mankind in terms of space. The ISS is literally a habitable "artificial satellite" located in low orbit around our planet. One of the most incredible images ever taken on board the International Space Station is perhaps when Astronaut Scott Kelly was able to capture on camera an extremely bizarre phenomena while the ISS was moving across Central America. As you can see in the image, there is a mysterious red light hovering above a thunderstorm which in the image appears as blue and white lights.

In the image above, what appears to be lighting can be seen over Central America, but what has caused a lot of interest in the image is the red light that mysteriously appears above the storm.

After seeing the images on social media, people started theorizing about the mysterious red light that appeared in the photograph of Kelly. All kinds of comment started popping up proposing very interesting theories about the bizarre phenomena.

People started talking about a portal to another dimension that was used by "intradimensional beings," A giant UFO with cloaking devices, and some people even ventured out to say that this red light is actually some sort of "living being made out of energy."

Another rare photograph

But actually, its none of the above. Upon closer examination, it was determined that the mysterious red light is a giant "Sprite" produced by the thunderstorm.

Sprites are actually huge electrical discharges that take place high above thunderstorm clouds. These sprites are produced by the discharges of positive lightning between underlying thundercloud and the surface. Some people call this phenomena "upper-atmospheric lighting" which is inaccurate. So far, scientists have identified three types of Sprites.

C or Column sprite, which are the most mysterious of the three. A Column sprite is a large electrical discharge above the planet and researchers haven't quite figured out everything about it.

Carrot sprite is the second most common shape of Sprites.

Jellyfish sprite are normally the largest with around 50 by 50 km in diameter.

So there you have it, after all it isnt ET visiting Earth, it's not a portal to another dimension, and no, it's not an energy being. Actually, it's a very rare and beautiful phenomena that according to scientists, could play a very important role in the air we breathe on our planet. Sprite are very difficult to photograph.
