A very rare skin disease, Harlequin-type ichthyosis occurs when Keratin layer is thickened in fetal human skin. The baby born with this rare skin disease has massive scales on the body which might be reddish in colour. Eyes, ears, mouth and other parts may be contracted. Harlequin babies are at high risk of bacterial infection. The disease occurs with mutation in the protein gene.
Lamellar Ichthyosis
Lamellar Ichthyosis is a rare skin disorder, in which babies shed their outer layer of skin. This is the primary symptom after which the main symptom starts occurring. The skin starts extensive scaling that looks familiar to fish scales, tiling the skin around joint areas like elbow, neck, armpit and groins. In severe cases, tiling of scales can be seen all over body with increasing age. In this disorder, the patient’s body can’t sweat to cool the body temperature resulting in fish like scaling over the skin.
Epidermolysis Bullosa
The rare disease is more commonly known as Butterfly Disease, as the skin of the child born with the disorder is very fragile. The disorder causes blisters if the skin is rubbed, mostly hands and feet are affected. The disorder is caused by genetic mutation. Anencephaly
Anencephaly is a cephalic disorder that is the result of Neural tube defect. In this condition, babies do not survive, babies are born withoutforebrain and remaining part of brain tissue is mostly uncovered (No bone or skin).
