The health minister of Lebanon, warned the public that several popular restaurants are failing to keep the food safe for human consumption.
"The food items are not only immersed in sweat, but also in diseases and microbes," Health Minister Wael Abu Faour said on Wednesday.
Faour revealed that many supermarkets, bakeries, butcher shops and restaurants are violating food safety standards, according to the results of an inspection campaign conducted in the last 20 days.
Some notable food establishments mentioned during the press conference were Roadster Diner, Bedo, Makaneq, and Al-Hallab.
The two places with the worst records were Tanmiya and An-Natour. An-Natour was previously shut down for importing and distributing of expired and diseased meat.
Other violations include stacking meat in rusty containers, having a toilet in the kitchen, putting food next to the trash, using rusty, old and dirty knives, not wearing gloves while working with food and using the same cooking oil for months.
The minister also revealed that the remains of human excrement were found in some cases.
