Jersey City, NJ | Robert Lloyd Gibbson had the surprise of his life when his whole house came crashing down just moments after he had decided to take a nice warm bath.
The 34-year old man who weights an estimated 650 pounds was just relaxing in his bathtub when the floor of the bathroom collapsed, leaving him in his hallway, two stories lower, totally naked but luckily unharmed.
“I was relaxing in my bathtub as I do everyday after work when all Hell broke loose” explains the Dairy Queen employee
The man believes he owes his survival to the heavy steel structure of the bathtub that took most of the impact.
The house he had inherited from his deceased grandparents might have had major security flaws that could explain why the house collapsed in such a manner. “There was fungus everywhere, I’m pretty sure the whole floor was barely holding still. I also had a termite infestation last year but didn’t have the money to pay for renovations after I received the bill for the exterminator” he explains.
A quick inspection of the house debris showed how termites still ran rampant all over the place.
Even if the man is happy to have survived the tragic destruction of his home, he warns people that this could happen to anybody. “There was no way I could know this could happen to this extreme” he explains, still visibly under shock. “It’s a good thing I’m a bit overweight” he adds. “It probably helped me absorb some of the impact. I mean, I fell two stories and barely have any bruises” he concludes.
