Customer At McDonald’s Finds Nazi Swastika Burned Onto Sandwich Bun

A routine trip to a Morehead City, North Carolina McDonald’s drive-through resulted in shock and disgust when customer Charleigh Matice discovered that a swastika symbol had been burned onto the bun of her chicken sandwich.

In a WCTI 12 news report, Matice said:
“Is this a joke? Does somebody really think this is funny? Many people died because of that symbol and it’s not something that should be taken lightly. It’s not something that should be thrown around.” [source]
Matice took the offensive bun to the McDonald’s manager, who simply offered to replace it.
“I really didn’t have an appetite at that point, so I said, ‘I’d rather have my money back.’” [source]
The manager apologized and refunded Matice, but Matice felt that not enough was done – so Matice took the story to news station WCTI 12.

WCTI 12 verified that Matice’s story was legit and Dulcy Purcell, the owner of that McDonald’s franchise, sent WCTI 12 an email with an apology to Matice for the incident. The statement read:

“We are very sorry for the service that our customers received, and to be clear we have terminated the employee who was involved. We do not tolerate that kind of behavior at McDonald’s, and it’s not what we stand for personally as owners. It is about providing the best level of service and care to our customers, and anything less than that is unacceptable to us.” [source]

Matice says she plans to keep dining at McDonald’s and is pleased with the outcome of the situation.

“I’m a loyal customer and that’s why I don’t want people like that representing them.” [source]
